CHARACTER
Character Name: Magoichi Saika (Note: Magoichi Saika is actually a title/name given to the leader of the Saika faction. It is implied her previous name is Sayaka)
Character Age: Lol like Senbasa tells you age.
Canon:Dead Samurai Trash Hell Sengoku Basara
Canon Point: After battling Nobunaga Oda (Senbasa 3, Grey path end)
History:
( Prior to Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes )
Not much is known about Magoichi's life before becoming the leader of the Saika faction - like most of the Sengoku Basara cast, in fact. The little we do know is that she has history with several of the other cast - most notably Motochika Chosokabe and Masamune Date. Her history with Motochika stems back to before she became leader of the Saika faction, as evidenced by his insistence on calling her Sayaka (implied this is her previous name). It is unclear where her relationship with Masamune stems from, but they seem to get on well, as shown in their easy banter and his affectionate nickname of boss lady.
The other main fact we learn about Magoichi's past is that she had a positive relationship with her master and mentor, one of the previous Magoichis. This is shown in her interactions with Nobunaga Oda, the man responsible for her master's death. He mentions recalling 'a young girl, standing over her fallen leader's corpse' and the entire interaction is one of the few moments that Magoichi shows visible emotion - particularly after defeating him, where she is shaken and heard saying "Master... My mentor. Don't cry. Hold your tears. Don't cry." It isn't specified whether their relationship was platonic or more than that, but conversation with Keiji Maeda during the Kawanakajima stage - when combined with the emotional moments during her battle with Nobunaga - implies that Magoichi may have held some romantic interest for her mentor (Keiji: "If you don't mind, what kind of men do you like?" Magoichi: "The man of my taste is dead. What concern is it of yours?")
Before the beginning of Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, the Saika Faction had been [idk i thought they worked with Hideyoshi?]. The very first thing we see - in the pre-story cutscene that provides something of a prologue to each character and faction's path towards Sekigahara - is the Saika faction defeating the Hojo clan quite soundly. Of course, this was a mission taken on as a pact, not a personal thing.
( Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes - Red Path )
[ Playthrough, pt 7 ]
Personality:
"As we stand here, once again on the brink of war, I must wonder... did we bring it upon ourselves?" Intelligent and strong, Magoichi Saika is an almost picture perfect representation of what one would expect the leader of a faction to be like during the Warring States period in Japan - a fact that makes her startlingly strange when seen against most of the other player characters in Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes. She comes across calm, even stoic, and rational. That her very first spoken dialogue outside of the introductory cutscene is musing on the state of Japan is a defining moment that really solidifies her as one of the more serious characters in a series that is largely ridiculous ham. She quickly continues with this strong impression, demonstrating the Saika's pride and philosophy as mercenaries - allying themselves with the people who show them respect (and cold, hard cash), rather than having any vested interest in petty rivalries or loyalties ("We pay no attention to the bonds of flesh or blood, as they bring little but trouble. Such is our way.").
Although Magoichi and the Saika faction place a lot of importance on intelligence, it is demonstrated that - when it comes to being hired - they place less importance on what the overall goal is and more on the value of their skills to a potential employer. This can lead to decisions such as working for Mitsunari (in Magoichi's blue path) and allying with Ieyasu without actually knowing more about his intentions. While this doesn't become a problem during the course of Samurai Heroes, it isn't difficult to see how this attitude could lead to problems and unfortunate decisions being made.
"As simple mercenaries, we are not culpable in any way." This existence requires a certain degree of selfishness, and - indeed - Magoichi certainly puts the interests of her own faction above anything else. The consequences of Ieyasu's campaign are of little interest to her, and - once their job is finished - she is quite happy to leave him to deal with the fallout of what has happened, without trying to help him in any personal way. Fairness and kindness are tools she uses only when they suit the interests of the Saika faction; she has no problem abandoning both in order to further their name ("You think firearms unfair? True, perhaps, but naive to say so.")
The Saika's reputation as effective mercenaries matters more than any personal feelings she might have, and that can be seen in the way her arrogance and pride is turned up on the battlefield. While normally a proud woman, Magoichi's confidence crosses over into arrogance in battle ("Of course you're inferior to us. That's nothing to be ashamed of.") and unlike other commanders (such as Ieyasu), she never seems to refer to or even consider defeat in her battle quotes (double check playing Saika Stronghold). This is probably unsurprising, given her situation as the leader of such a prestigious faction during this era - she likely has no other option than to be stronger and less emotive than other generals.
"People change, Demon King. Except for you. You can't. You've abandoned your humanity. If you cannot change, you are already as good as dead." Change is certainly a theme in the Saika faction - they specialise in firearms in a time where firearms were a relatively new and rare commodity.
"We are but feathers, but united we form a mighty crow!" The Saika consider themselves a unit, which is demonstrated very well in the original Japanese by Magoichi's use of the pronoun われら (warera) and reflected in the English by a higher than normal use of first person plural pronouns.
"Reflecting upon the battles she had lived through, the lives she had taken, and the deaths she had witnessed, she surmised that the only thing of any worth in this life was to live honorably."
"Let's make one thing clear: we acknowledge no one as master. As such, under no circumstance, shall we regard you as ours."
[I] "Of course not. As I understand, you refused to serve with Hideyoshi because he demanded such obedience, right?"
"Nobody controls us. Our fate is our own. We're our own masters. This is the way of the Saika, and our greatest pride."
"I have impeccable aim. Your head is next. People change, Demon King. Except for you. You can't. You've abandoned your humanity. If you cannot change, you are already as good as dead. You are a symbol of corrupt decadence! Nobunaga Oda, I will fill you up with lead and send you back to hell!"
"I suppose we should take advantage of the opportunities presented to us."
"We do not ally ourselves with the weak. If you desire our steel, you must first prove your abilities."
"So, what is it you're after? Do you seek to tame us?"
"That's the spirit. I don't even have time to reload."
"How many shots exactly does it take to put you down?"
"I assure you, Magoichi Saika is not a name you'll soon forget."
"It is not wise to let your excitement overcome you. It inevitably leads to defeat."
"You are perhaps the only one who is a true threat to our glory."
"Foolish ninja, you're no match for my artillery."
"Your actions are blinded. Your judgement clouded."
"Know that there is nothing that we fear. Nothing at all. We are the Saika faction!"
"Hear us now! We are the Saika faction! The red bell rings - the pact we have made shall be known to all! Let it toll, let the bell call out across the land!"
"We fight and die for each other. The crows of Saika. We abide by our own set of rules."
"There is no greater advantage than good intelligence."
"Saika's weapons are responsible for changing the face of war."
"You seem blue, Ieyasu... What is it that troubles you?"
"He's ill? It truly saddens me to hear such news."
"Are you going back on your word, Ieyasu? Where I come from... we would call you a punk."
"I'll wait. And should that day ever arrive, I dare you to find me."
"Sharpen your claws, crows of Saika!"
"Whether we should fight or negotiate all depends on our opponent."
"By the way, Ieyasu, I never actually asked you of your intentions."
[I] "Magoichi! Are you saying you formed a pact before you had such knowledge?!"
"If our skills are of such renown that you sought us out, what more reason should I need? So, what motivates you?"
[I] "You're asking what I hope to gain from all of this? My wish: a nation at peace. Nothing more."
"I see. And that is why you oppose Mitsunari. You believe this peace can be achieved once he's been eliminated."
[I] "Yes. He must be dealt with. And I will never believe otherwise."
"You contribute to the destruction of a country simply for profit? How can you live with yourself?"

As the leader of a group of mercenaries during the Warring States era of Japan, Magoichi is an excellent fighter and capable of using a whole variety of firearms. Her fighting style is quick and aggressive. Although not seen creating traps herself, it can be assumed that she's experienced with them, having served the Saika faction before becoming its leader, as their entire base is littered with them.

Part of the Saika's specialities. They do not operate without information and Magoichi is seen reminding some of her more hotheaded allies to cease rushing in without the whole picture. It can also be seen in her main paths, where - after allying with people - she spends a lot of time silently observing conversation, rather than contributing.

"[The Saika faction's] leader, Magoichi Saika, watched calmly over the country as tensions rose. [...] Her sights now set upon the two responsible for dividing the country, Magoichi waited to see what path their disparate lives would take."Directly at the beginning of Samurai Heroes, the Saika faction are a neutral party and observing the actions of the main contenders in the current battle - Ieyasu and Mitsunari - to decide who they will ally themselves with. After some travelling, it is decided that they ally with Ieyasu Tokugawa. From there, they begin aiding the Tokugawa forces in collecting further allies. They eventually end up at Kawanakajima, to speak with Kenshin Uesugi, where Magoichi finally encounters Keiji Maeda ("Whoa. I mean... Hello, Milady.").
